Team Target Finish 34th after an On-Track Incident in Texas

FORT WORTH (Nov. 4, 2012) – The No. 42 Chevrolet displayed a different look over the weekend as the team sported a HUGGIES® red and white paint scheme. Juan Pablo Montoya lined-up for the AAA Texas 500 in the 25th-position on the starting grid and was running midfield when a freak accident occurred on lap 120. The HUGGIES® Chevrolet received significant damage and spent 56 laps in the garage for repairs. The team settled for a 34th-place finish.

The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season is coming to a close as teams entered into Texas Motor Speedway with only three races remaining in the schedule. The HUGGIES® team qualified in the 25th position and focused on handling in the early laps of the 500-mile race. On lap 120, bad luck would strike as Montoya tried to avoid an incident in front of him and turned left into the grass where he hit something. The damage to the front of the car would be significant as the HUGGIES® Chevy came to the garage for repairs and returned to the track 56 laps down. When the checkered flag waved, Montoya was credited with a 34th-place finish.

“Not a good day for the HUGGIES® team,” Montoya remarked. “I was trying to avoid a pileup in front of me so I turned left and ended up in the grass. We must have hit something in the grass, as the car jumped up and the front end received a ton of damage. The guys worked really hard to get us back together and we were able to return to the track. We just haven’t had any luck this season.”
 
Notes:
• The No. 42 HUGGIES® Chevrolet received damage on lap 120 when Montoya tried to avoid an on-track incident in front of him and went into the grass. The No. 42 crew replaced the front end clip and radiator and returned to the track 55 laps down.
• There are only two races remaining in the 2012 season.
• Montoya remains 22nd in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings
