Bass Pro Shops Team Finishes 23rd at Phoenix International Raceway
AVONDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 11, 2012) – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Jamie McMurray made his 19th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) career-start at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend. The No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Allstate Chevrolet qualified 18th for the 312-lap race and would ultimately come home with a 23rd-place finish.
With only two races remaining on the 2012 NSCS schedule, teams traveled out west for the AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. The Bass Pro Shops team started 18th on the one-mile tri-oval race track and would immediately battle with the balance of the No. 1 Chevrolet. The crew worked hard to improve the drivability of the Bass Pro Shops car, but the long, green flag runs during the middle of the race didn’t allow adequate time for major adjustments. In the closing laps, McMurray dodged multiple incidents of on-track melee and brought the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Allstate Chevrolet to the checkered flag for a 23rd-place finish.
“We fought with the balance of the Bass Pro Shops/Allstate Chevy all weekend. The guys did a great job in pits, but the long, green flag runs didn't play into our strategy. We'll continue working hard as we head to the final race of the season in Miami next weekend.”
- McMurray’s best start and finish at Phoenix International Raceway came in 2008 when the Bass Pro Shops driver qualified second and crossed the finish line third.
- McMurray remains 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series prepares for its season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend for the Ford EcoBoost 400 which will air live on ESPN and radio stations affiliated with MRN on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2:00 pm ET.
