Target Finish 28th at the Season Finale Race in Homestead
HOMESTEAD,
Fla. (Nov. 18, 2012)
– The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series came to a close Sunday night under the lights at
Homestead-Miami Speedway. The No. 42 Target team looked to close out the season
strong but unfortunately fell short as they battled with handling and long
green flag runs to finish out the season finale in 28th-place.
Juan
Pablo Montoya returned to his “hometown” track of Homestead-Miami Speedway over
the weekend. It also marked his sixth anniversary in the NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series. The Target Chevy started out the day in the 21st position
and Montoya would battle with a finicky handling race car from the very start.
The team made as many adjustments as possible but with limited cautions and
long green flag runs, the No. 42 was never able to regain positions to get up
front and contend for the win. Montoya maintained track position and finished
out the 267-lap race in the 28th-position.
“It
wasn’t the weekend we had hoped for or the way we wanted to close out the 2012
season,” Montoya commented. “What a tough year for the Target team. We still
have a lot of testing coming up and with the new car and new motors next year
I’m looking forward to a fresh start. I’d like to thank Target and all the
partners for their support this year and we’ll go chase that championship next
year.”
