19TH-PLACE FINISH FOR BASS PRO SHOPS TEAM IN CALIFORNIA
FONTANA, Calif. (March 24, 2013) – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (EGR) driver Jamie McMurray drove the Bass Pro Shops Chevy SS to a 19th-place finish in the Auto Club 400 on the two-mile oval in Fontana, Calif.
The No. 1 Chevy SS featured the colors of Bass Pro Shops in California and the team looked to carry momentum of back-to-back races with strong runs. McMurray posted a 17th-place qualifying effort on Friday, and had a strong car in all three practice sessions leading up to Sunday’s 200-lap race.
From the drop of the green flag he No. 1 team quickly moved up into the top-10. McMurray would have a difficult time finding the balance on the No. 1 Chevy SS later in the race. As the track temperature continued to rise, the car experienced a loose-handling condition for much of the second half of the race. Following a caution with just 14 laps remaining, the team chose not to pit for new tires and looked to gain track-position to make a final run to the finish. The No. 1 would cross the finish line in the 19th-position.
“The track was very unpredictable today. We were both tight and loose throughout the race.” commented McMurray. “Our Bass Pro Shops Chevy SS was really good in the early stages but, we just couldn’t hit the adjustments in the second half of today’s race to make a run toward the front of the field.”
- Today was the first race with Bass Pro Shops as primary sponsor on the No. 1 Chevy SS
- McMurray is currently 16th in the NSCS point standings
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will have next weekend off, and will resume the 2013 schedule on Sunday, April 7 at Martinsville Speedway for the STP Gas Booster 500, which will air live on FOX and radio stations affiliated with MRN at 1:00 pm EDT.
