WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald`s Team
Martinsville Recap: The No. 1 McDonald’s team backed up a strong qualifying effort with the team’s third top-10 finish in the first seven races of the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. The team battled to maintain crucial track-position throughout the 500-lap race on the paperclip-shaped half-mile track. Although the handling on the No. 1 Chevy would vary during the race, the team battled in the closing laps to move into position for back-to-back top-10 finishes.
McMurray at Texas: McMurray will make his 20th NSCS start at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) this weekend. In his previous 19 starts, McMurray has accumulated six top-10 and three top-five finishes, in the Lone Star State. He has an average starting position of 24.1 and an average finishing position of 17.7. His best start was fourth in Nov. 2008 and his best result was a runner-up finish in April of 2005.
Milestone Start: McMurray will make his 400th career NSCS start on Sunday in the AAA Texas 500. The Joplin, Mo. native has run full-time in the top-tier NASCAR series since 2003, after making six starts in 2002, in relief of injured driver Sterling Marlin. McMurray burst on the scene in 2002 by winning in just his second series start at Charlotte Motor Speedway, setting the record for the fewest starts before a win. In his first 399 races, he has accumulated nine pole awards, 108 top-10’s, 45 top-five’s and seven victories, including his only multiple win season in 2010 that included victories in the sport’s two biggest races, the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400. He also took the checkered flag at the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway that season.
Golden Arches: There’s no reason to go hungry while visiting Texas Motor Speedway this week. McDonald’s has several locations within 10 miles. The closest restaurant is located at 1100 North Highway 377 Roanoke, TX 76262 817-491-3502.
Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team
Martinsville Rewind: Team Target and Juan Pablo Montoya returned to the track infamously named the “paperclip” over the weekend. The No. 42 practiced within the top-10 in all three practice sessions, qualified in the 13th position and overcame a tire rub and handling issues to finish out the day in the 13th position.
Montoya at Texas: Montoya has 13 career NSCS starts at Texas Motor Speedway which includes two top-10 finishes at the mile-and-a-half racetrack. He has an average starting position of 15.8 and an average finishing position of 23.2. His best start of third came at the fall 2007 race and best finish of seventh came at the spring 2009 race.
A Career 250: Montoya hit a milestone last weekend as he made his 250th career NSCS start at Martinsville. Over the course of seven full-time seasons in the NSCS, the Colombian driver has accumulated nine pole awards, two wins, 24 top-five and 58 top-10 finishes. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 2007 and made the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2009 where he finished a career high eighth in the point standings.
