Target Team Nabs a Top-10 Finish in Pocono

Long Pond, Pa. (June 12, 2011) – Juan Pablo Montoya and the Target team were a permanent fixture up in the top-10 for 200-laps at Pocono Raceway. The No. 42 Chevrolet started in the 16th position, led a total of 38 laps and overcame a transmission problem in the closing laps to finish seventh. This marks the fifth top-10 finish for the Target team this season and advances Montoya to the 13th position in the point standings; 22 out of 10th.

The No. 42 Target Chevrolet lined-up 16th on the starting grid and quickly made a move to the front. Montoya found himself in the fourth position after a two-tire pit stop just 19 laps into the race. He would advance into the lead by lap 77 and go on to lead a total of 38 throughout the day. The race only saw a total of 14 laps under caution causing teams to play out on pit and fuel strategy. The Target Chevrolet spent 183 out of 200-laps of the race in the top-10. With 25 to go, Montoya radioed in a problem with third gear and had to spend the remaining laps running in fourth gear causing the Target Chevrolet to drop a few positions on track and finish out the day in seventh place.

“We had a really good car all day,” Montoya remarked post race.  “With like 25 laps to go I lost third gear. It was kind of weird. It was a good thing we didn’t have another caution because we would have been completely done. We’ve had some problems with the gear box and things lately but we still managed to get a top-10 finish today. Our Target Chevy ran good all day.”
