Sonoma, Cali. (June 26, 2011) – Jamie McMurray started the Toyota/ Save Mart 350 from the outside front row on the 1.99-mile road course in Sonoma, and worked hard all day to overcome on track issues and post a 15th-place finish in the McDonald’s Chevrolet at Infineon Raceway.
McMurray had a very good practice session on Friday and backed it up with a strong qualifying effort, putting the McDonald’s Chevrolet on the outside of the front row. In Saturday’s two practice sessions the No. 1 team also posted the first and second fastest times respectively, and the team felt they had a competitive race package for Sunday’s 110-lap event.
The race would test the fortitude of the team however. The McDonald’s Chevrolet battled with a loose condition when the event began. Soon after, the team would have to overcome issues with being caught up in an on-track altercation on lap 38 and having a flat tire on lap 55. McMurray and the McDonald’s team raced through the field on both occasions to regain track position and brought the car home in the 15th-positon.
After the event McMurray commented, “I felt good about our chances for a solid run today. We unloaded with a fast car on Friday and we were good all weekend, but things can happen so quickly at this track. We worked hard to come back through the field a couple of times today and I am proud of the effort from our crew.”
- McMurray is currently 27th -position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings
- McMurray ranked 12th among all drivers for fastest laps during green flag conditions in the race
- McMurray ranked fourth among all drivers for most green flag passes with 106
Next weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be at Daytona International Speedway for the Coke Zero 400. The race will take place on Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) and will be covered live on TNT and MRN radio affiliated stations.
