No. 1 McDONALD’S TEAM POSTS TOP-15 FINISH AT MONSTER MILE
Dover, Del. (October 2, 2011) – Jamie McMurray started the AAA 400 from the 23rd spot on Sunday at Dover International Speedway and the No. 1 team battled throughout the 400 lap event to adjust the handling on the McDonald’s Chevrolet. McMurray overcame a one lap deficit near the midway point of the race as he and the team managed to bring home a 15th-place finish.
The third race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup would prove to be a challenge for the McDonald’s team, and the crew would work hard throughout the race to battle from the 23rd starting spot. The McDonald’s team would take advantage of early cautions to make adjustments on the McDonalds Chevrolet and would move into the top-10 following the NASCAR mandated competition caution on lap 40.
Just before the halfway point of the 400 lap race the No. 1 team would get caught a lap down after cycling through pit stops but was able to battle back with the benefit of a quick caution gaining position and getting back on the lead lap. The McDonald’s team took advantage of the good fortune to bring home a 15th-place finish.
“That felt like a hard-fought 15th-place finish!” commented McMurray after the race. “We had a lot of challenges for our team today, with having to battle from a lap down and work on work on strategy in case the rains came. I am proud of our team and how hard everyone worked today.”
