Clorox Team Finishes 25th in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (March 11, 2012) –The No. 42 Chevrolet sported some new colors over the weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The color blue dominated the car as Target partner, Clorox was the primary sponsor. Going with much optimism after a strong race in Phoenix, the team had a challenging weekend as they pulled out the back-up car after an incident in first practice and struggled with handling on race day. When the Kolbalt Tools 400 concluded, the No. 42 Clorox Chevrolet was credited with a 25th –place finish.

Juan Pablo Montoya took to the track Friday afternoon for the first of two practice sessions. On the first lap the Clorox Chevrolet made contact with the wall forcing the team to pull out the back-up car. Montoya would get very little time in the back-up and subsequently qualify the race car in the 29th position. The Clorox team would later opt to replace the engine in the car so the No. 42 started in the rear of the field.

Come race time, the Clorox Chevrolet gained 12 positions within the first five laps. Not long after, Montoya reported some handling concerns. The Clorox team would make multiple pit stops throughout the race to try and help with the handling. As the laps progressed the handling started to return but the team was unable to get back on the lead lap and would have to settle for a 25th-place finish.

“It was tough out there today. Not the day we wanted to have. I wish we had a better performance in our Clorox Chevrolet. The handling was all over the place. Just when we thought we had it figured out we were unable to get the lucky dog. I’m looking forward to Bristol and getting things back on track,” Montoya remarked.
