11th PLACE FINISH FOR BASS PRO SHOPS TEAM AT TALLADEGA
Talladega, Ala. (May 6, 2012) – Talladega Superspeedway has a reputation for being action packed excitement for the fans, often that means lots of wrecks. The Aaron’s 499 lived up to its reputation as the race was slowed on four occasions for accidents involving 22 cars. Jamie McMurray managed to avoid each of those incidents and bring home an 11th-place finish.
The start of Sunday’s race would be delayed close to an hour as early morning storms rolled through the area. Once underway, Jamie McMurray would drop to the back of the field for the first half of the race, hoping to avoid any wrecks that are common with the larger packs on the 2.66 mile Talladega Superspeedway. McMurray would charge toward the front in the second half of the race and kept the Bass Pro Shops Chevy in the lead pack bringing home an 11th-place finish.
McMurray commented after the race, “It was just really hard to pass today. We rode in the back there for a while and when I tried to go to the front, I never really could get there. I am just glad that we weren’t involved in any accidents. There were a lot of wrecks today, so I feel very blessed that we made it through the day without crashing. It’s always easy to find the negative in all of this, but most likely this morning if you had told me I would finish 11th, I would have said I’ll just take that and go home right now.”
Notes:
- McMurray moved up two positions in the NSCS point standings to 16th, 49 points out of 10th-place
- McMurray has gained eight spots in the point standings in four weeks
