Bass Pro Shops Team Gets 21st-Place Finish at Charlotte
Concord, N.C. (May 27, 2012) – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) teams took to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for one of the most demanding races of the season, in the 600-mile endurance for the Coca-Cola 600. The Bass Pro Shops/Arctic Cat Chevrolet rolled off from the 31st-postion and finished the night with a 21st-place finish.
From the start of the longest race of the season, Jamie McMurray quickly began driving the No. 1 Chevrolet to the front of the field, running as high as the second-position. The Bass Pro Shops team was able to maintain lead lap position until having to serve a pit road penalty for a missing lug nut shortly after the halfway mark of the 400-lap race. In the end, after only five cautions, there would only be nine cars to finish on the lead lap and McMurray would wheel the Bass Pro Shops Chevy in the 21st-position.
McMurray commented after the race, “Our Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet started out really strong tonight. We raced our way to the front and had a really good car, however having to make an extra stop really took us out of contention with the long green flag runs and not being able to take advantage of any cautions. We really wanted to try and give Chip another win today.”
Notes:
- McMurray is currently 21st in the NSCS point standings
- McMurray ranked in the top-15 in all of the following categories in the Coca-Cola 600, fastest laps run (13), green flag passes (2), quality passes (8) green flag speed (12)
