EGR at the Pocono: In 50 starts at Pocono Raceway, EGR drivers have earned four top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS). Sterling Marlin and Casey Mears started from the pole in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The highest finishing position for EGR was in 2009 with Juan Pablo Montoya finishing second at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. EGR drivers have completed 10,046 laps out of a possible 10,688 laps or 94% of the laps possible and have led 227 laps at the raceway. Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) earned two ARCA Series victories at Pocono Raceway, both coming in 2003 with Mears.
Pocono Facelift: The 2.5-mile tri-oval, known as the Tricky Triangle, was recently repaved. NSCS drivers, including EGR’s Jamie McMurray visited the raceway earlier this season for a Goodyear tire test. “After the few laps [at the test], with the speed and the grip that it has -- from my perspective, I think most guys will like this a lot more,” said McMurray looking forward to the 400-mile race.
There’s an App for that: CGRT and SapientNitro SM recently re-launched an updated mobile application, which is one of the first for the high-velocity world of racing. The application brings fans updated driver and event information, and exclusive content in one centralized and expansive mobile experience, bringing to life the rich heritage and legendary success of CGRT. The unique mobile application conveys the high-octane rush of the racing experience for a team that competes at the highest levels in three series – NSCS, IZOD IndyCar Series and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.
