Brickyard 400 Nets 22nd-Place Finish For Bass Pro Shops Team

INDIANAPOLIS (July 29, 2012) – The weekend was dubbed “Super Weekend” for the triple-header line-up of events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) was accompanied by the GRAND-AM and NASCAR Nationwide Series’ for the first time at the famed “Brickyard”. The Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet completed the headline event, Brickyard 400, in the 22nd-position.

A revised event schedule for the additional races at IMS, limited the on-track time for the NSCS teams. The pre-race activity was condensed from previous years to just two practice sessions and qualifying on Saturday, prior to Sunday’s 160-lap race. The Bass Pro Shops team worked feverishly during the practice sessions to provide a competitive balance on the No.1 Chevrolet. Jamie McMurray qualified in the 16th-position.

McMurray reported from the onset that the handling on the car was a hand-full. From the first pit stop the team would make some major adjustments to find the handle on the car, trying different strategies to gain track position. The handling on the car would make major swings from tight to loose creating a difficult challenge for adjustments. McMurray had the Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet as high as ninth-position during the race, however in the end the team would be credited with a 22nd-place finish.

“We had a tough time chasing the balance on our car today,” commented McMurray. “We went from one extreme to the other. The guys on this Bass Pro Shops team did a great job thrashing in the pits to get us better; I just wish we could have had another pit stop to get us fixed up a little better in the closing laps.”

Notes:
- McMurray moved up one position to 19th in the NSCS point standings
- Sunday marked the 350th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start for McMurray
- In 10 starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, McMurray has completed 1580 of 1601 laps (98.7%) and no DNF’s

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will return to Pocono Raceway this weekend for the Pennsylvania 400 on Sunday, August 5. ESPN television and MRN radio stations will have live coverage at 1:00 p.m. ET.
