MONTOYA TO START ON THE POLE, MCMURRAY 10TH

Montoya wins back-to-back NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coors Light Pole awards.  Second consecutive pole of 2012 for Team Target. Two top-10 starting spots for EGR Teams.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) held one practice session and qualifying for tomorrow’s Finger Lakes 355 at the Glen

• Today is Montoya’s ninth career NSCS pole, and his first on a road course, also a new track qualifying record at Watkins Glen International
• Montoya and Marcos Ambrose are the only two drivers to win back-to-back pole awards in 2012
• This is Team Chevy’s sixth pole of 2012, and the 12 time being on the pole at Watkins Glen International
• McMurray’s previous best starting position at Watkins Glen was second at the 2010 race
• The McDonald’s Chevrolet will feature at Team USA Olympic medal count on the No.1 that will be updated through the weekend as the count changes
• Target Team crew chief Chris “Shine” Heroy celebrates his birthday weekend with a second consecutive Coors Light Pole Award

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) held only one practice session today due to rain in the area for Sunday’s Finger Lakes 355 at the Glen.
 
First Practice Results
P1        Kurt Busch, No. 51 Chevrolet –  70.529 sec
P12      Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Target Chevrolet –   71.370 sec (no mock qualifying run was made)
P30      Jamie McMurray, No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet –   72.407 sec (no mock qualifying run was made)
 
• Rain moved into the area causing NASCAR to cancel the first practice session of the day at Watkins Glen.
• NASCAR has added an additional practice session tomorrow from 8:00 – 9:25 am ET. Qualifying will begin at the previously scheduled time, 11:40 am ET
• McMurray will go out 14th for qualifying and Montoya 32nd.
• Montoya’s last win was at Watkins Glen in 2010. He has made five NSCS starts here, earning one win, two top-five and four top-10 finishes.  He has completed 434 laps out of a possible 452 laps, or 96 percent, and has led 80 laps.  At The Glen, Montoya has an average start of 12.2 and an average finish of 11.4.
• McMurray has made nine starts at Watkins Glen, earning one top-five, and  two top-10 finishes.  He has completed 781 laps out of a possible 814 laps, or 95.9 percent, and has led 12 laps.  In his nine starts his highest starting position was second in 2010, and his highest finish was third in 2006.  McMurray’s average start is 17.2 and his average finish is 18.2.
