Manion Owned Modified To Start From Pole at New Hampshire
June 26, 2010
LOUDON, N.H. (June 26, 2010) - The NASCAR Sprint Cup Season can be a grueling grind, one that doesn’t allow for much spare time for team members. This includes, family time, vacation time, and time to enjoy ones favorite hobby. That hobby for the Daytona 500 winning Crew and Car Chief combo of Kevin “Bono” Manion and Gary Putnam is… Modified racing. The two “sowed their racing oats” on the NASCAR Whelen-Modified Tour (NWMT), and when all the stars align (as in the schedules of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) and the NWMT) the two have an opportunity to participate in their hobby.
One such weekend is now upon us, as the NSCS and NWMT converge at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, one of the mainstays on the NWMT. The tandem of Manion and Putnam, along with a number of the crew members from Manion’s No.1 NSCS team traveled early to New Hampshire for final preparations of their modified earlier this week. The preparation paid off as the No. 7NY modified took the Pole position for today’s NWMT event. The car number 7NY, is that of the late Tom Baldwin (father of NSCS Owner/Crew Chief, Tommy Baldwin Jr.).
Earlier this season, Car Chief Gary Putnam piloted the No. 7 modified, in his tour debut, on the quarter-mile Frontstretch oval at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Manion and Putnam plan to run their modified for the combination events at Bristol in August and when the NSCS returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway in September.
The New England 100 begins today at 1:10pm ET. For live updates from today’s event click here, http://hometracks.nascar.com/node/4809
