Montoya Named One of the 50 Most Marketable Athletes in 2010

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Juan Pablo Montoya was recently named one of the most marketable athletes in the world by SportsPro magazine. Montoya is ranked 34th and joins fellow drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. (39th) and Danica Patrick (26th) as the only NASCAR drivers to make the list.

Athletes were evaluated according to their marketing worth now and over the next five years. Myriad sources were consulted, the likes of Forbes, BusinessWeek and SportsBusiness Journal in particular. The ranked athletes were deemed to offer value for marketing money if signed today to a long-term global endorsement deal.

Former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya has established himself as one of NASCAR’s biggest characters and commercial draws and has helped the series tap into the Hispanic community both inside and outside the United States. Montoya is in his fourth full-time season with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and has one NASCAR Sprint Cup series win, 16 top-five and 35 top-10 finishes.
